here.”
    Both women ignored him.
Mac sat up, and swung her legs over the side of the bed.
“Don’t leave on my account,” the doctor said.
“It’s okay,” Niko said. “She has somewhere else to be.”
Mac fused her gaze with his. It was her choice now. To take a chance, take what she wanted, and enjoy it.
Or stay locked up and alone.
He watched her steadily, like he knew exactly what battle was going on inside her.
Then Mac slipped off the bed and walked away. She looked back over her shoulder. “See you soon.”

Chapter Ten
Niko hurried toward his room. The nanomeds had done their work, and he felt full of energy. Not just full—he was bursting at the seams, and anxious to get to Mackenna.
Of course, people kept stopping him to chat and check up on him. He tried not to let his impatience show. Finally, he broke free and managed to get to the kitchen, grab the things he wanted, and get to his room.
He paused at his door, and took a calming breath, willing his heart rate to slow a little. Juggling the tray from the kitchen, he unlocked his door, and stepped inside.
The sight of her stole his breath away. He heard the quiet click of the door behind him, so he knew the door had shut, but he was too busy drinking in the vision in the center of his bed.
She was sitting up, with her legs tucked beneath her. She wasn’t quite naked, though—she was wearing one of his white shirts. The buttons were undone, baring a strip of skin down the center of her torso, and giving him a delicious hint of her breasts.
“Are you going to just stand there, or are you going to come closer?” she asked.
He shook himself out of his reverie and nodded, setting the tray on the table. But first, he had a burning need to capture her like this. To record the moment. “Don’t move.” He grabbed his sketchbook off the table, then sat on the bed near her, careful not to touch her.
He knew once he touched her, he wouldn’t be able to stop. He started sketching.
“Don’t tense up,” he said. “You’re beautiful.” His hand moved quickly over the page, the image of her taking shape. Desire was driving him to move faster. “Take the shirt off.”
With an elegant shrug of her shoulders, the shirt slipped away. “You show that sketch to anyone and I’ll hurt you.”
Niko smiled. That was his Mackenna. Finally, he couldn’t hold himself back any longer. He tossed the pad behind him, and reached for the tray that he’d brought from the kitchen.
    “What’s that?”
“A few little treats.” He handed her a beer.
She smiled and tipped it back. He watched her throat work as she took a long drink. When she pulled it away, he watched her lips, envious of the bottle.
She offered it to him and he took it, placed his lips where hers had been, and took a sip of the tart drink. Then he reached out and pushed her back until she snuggled into the pillows.
“I bet I can make this taste even better.” He tipped the bottle just a little, and a few drops of amber liquid sprinkled on her thigh. Niko leaned down and licked it off her skin.
She gasped. He moved up and tipped a little more on her flat stomach. He licked that up too, taking his time.
    “Are you hungry?” he murmured.
    “Starving.” Her tone was breathless.
He set the bottle on the bedside table and then reached for the small bowl of whipped cream on the tray. He dipped his fingers into it, touched her skin, and smeared the sweet stuff across her breasts.
“You are the most beautiful canvas I’ve ever used.” He picked up a bowl of raspberries now, selected one fat, luscious berry, and stroked it down her skin, leaving a tantalizing smear.
He leaned down, sucking the cream off her breasts, nipping at her nipples. He lapped it all up, then started following the trail of raspberry red down her middle.
He kept rubbing the delicious food over her and licking it off, watching her writhe under his touch. Holding a berry to her lips, he watched her bite into
