would have been nice to fill in the few little gaps about his career in South America, but that doesn't appear to be possible. And I certainly don't want to go any further and find out an old family friend might have turned traitor!"
The marble eyes narrowed. "I can understand that. But the FBI relies heavily on citizen cooperation in its work, so please call that number if anything comes up or if you remember anything you think would be helpful."
"I understand, but, as I said, I think I've reached the point where I'll be calling a halt to my little hobby," Talia said smoothly as she saw him to the door. "Besides,"
she murmured with a meaningful smile, "I seem to have developed other interests lately."
Aaron Pomeroy shot her a cold glance. God! Brown eyes should be warm, not chips of dark marble, Talia thought uncomfortably. "Sebastian?"
She nodded, opening the door for him. "Perhaps I owe Westbrook something for the introduction?" She chuckled.
Perhaps it was an inevitable fate that she had tempted too often during the past few moments that placed Kane Sebastian in the outer office precisely at the moment Talia was escorting Aaron Pomeroy of out Advanced Management Designs.
Perhaps it was simply the streak of bad luck she seemed to be having lately.
Whatever the reason, it was very nearly Talia's undoing. She was already suffering a bad case of nerves, but it seemed as if some vicious deity was intent on pushing her over the edge altogether.
He was standing in front of Karen's desk, his craggy face intent and serious as he talked quietly to the secretary. The snug-fitting jeans and open-necked shirt brought back violent memories of three days ago. As if, Talia thought wretchedly, she needed any more memories.
What was he doing here? Had he come to torment her further?
There was no time to scream at him, no time to demand explanations, no time to slam the door in his face. Aaron Pomeroy had also seen the tall, lean man standing in the lobby and by the narrowing of the brown marble gaze, Talia knew he'd ABC Amber Text Converter Trial v ersion, http://www.processtext.com/abctxt.html
    recognized him.
At that moment Kane glanced up, green eyes pinning Talia's stunned face with unerring accuracy. He ignored the watchful man by her side entirely and started forward. There was an almost frightening determination in the gliding stride that brought him toward her.
In that painful moment one salient fact seemed blazingly clear to Talia. She had given Aaron Pomeroy the idea that she had started an affair with Kane Sebastian.
Something warned her she'd better make certain the notion stuck.
"Kane! You made it! How delightful. I was so afraid we would have to wait until next weekend!"
Pulling every ounce of acting ability she'd ever owned to the fore, Talia left Pomeroy's side to greet Kane with the charmingly expectant smile of a woman confident of her reception.
Hands extended to take his, she stood on tiptoe for his kiss, lifting her mouth with an inviting smile. To her amazement, the smile stayed in place even as his fingers wrapped around hers and crushed them with an urgent grip the strength of which she didn't think Kane was even aware of.
"Hello, honey," he growled and then delivered the fleeting kiss of welcome Talia was so clearly expecting. Only she was aware of the fierce hardness of his mouth on hers and the hold that was chasing all the blood out of her fingers. The green eyes were emerald fires as she stepped back.
"Kane, darling, I want you to meet someone. A Mr. Pomeroy…"
Talia turned, intent on the introduction, just as the outer door closed on her recent visitor. She stared in astonishment at the closed door and then became conscious of the painful grip on her hand.
Slowly she turned back to Kane, deliberately trying to loosen her fingers. She got one hand free, but he refused to release the other.
"Sorry I missed meeting your visitor, honey," he drawled, "but why don't you carry on with the
