almost
finished, she debated before refreshing the glass. She licked the rim and took
a sip, then moved out of the kitchen to the family room, the very location
she’d…she’d seduced the man in the first place. “Ugh.”
Kaela laughed at herself as she
sauntered toward the stereo system, glaring at the complicated mass of
electronics before figuring out simply how to maneuver the CD player. As she
flipped through his extensive collection of pieces, she was surprised as the
various genres and artists – pleasantly surprised. There was quite a bit more
to the man than simply business and kink. As the light jazz sounds of Kenny G
filtered into the room, she moved to the French doors, gazing up at the rising
moon. And then she tried to figure out what possessed her to agree to this
incredible…
“Excellent
choice.”
His deep voice always managed to
thrill her. She remained where she was and still her nipples were scraping
against her bra. “The wine or the music?”
“Both as well as
the marinara. I didn’t
know you could cook,” Broden said quietly as he inched closer.
“I can’t.”
“You could have fooled me. I had to
sneak a taste.”
A subtle laugh found its way past
her mouth. She turned to face him and once again, he managed to drag her breath
from her body. She wasn’t certain is she was expecting leather chaps and chains
surrounding his neck, but the very unassuming look of a tight yet faded red
tee-shirt and a pair of stone washed blue jeans surprised the hell out of her.
He was sexy in an unassuming way, right down to his bear feet.
Grinning, his eyes twinkled as he
held up his glass and tipped his head. “I apologize for taking so long. I was
making certain I could have a delivery of certain items of clothing for you in
the early morning hours. For some reason my connections weren’t as influential
as I remembered them to be.”
“You mean in the leather and chains
world?” The words slipped out of her mouth before she could stop them.
Horrified, she held out her hand and the hurt look in her face made her feel
worse than any terse words he could say to her. “I’m so sorry. That was
completely uncalled for and I know you’re trying to make me feel more
comfortable and you really are doing a very good job of being nice to me and
after I was really a shit to you and…” Her words trailing off, she groaned.
“No need to apologize.”
“Yes, there is. I’m sorry,” Kaela
breathed.
“Apology accepted.”
They locked eyes for a few minutes
until she couldn’t take the tension any longer. “Well as a good sub I should
attend to dinner. It should be ready in about ten minutes.” Fearing he’d say
something, she walked quickly out of the room and into the kitchen. Exhaling
slowly, she cursed under her breath. What an idiot she was.
Grabbing the spoon for the sauce,
she stirred with enough vehemence several splats made in on top of the
stovetop. After wiping them furiously she started the pasta water, turning the
burner on high and clomped toward the window in the kitchen. This was going to
be a fiasco.
Not a full minute later she could
see his reflection in the window as he came into the kitchen, one hand shoved
into his jeans pocket. The very thoughtful look was damn hot. Swallowing hard,
she looked away on purpose.
“Maybe this is a mistake. You don’t
have to be here if you don’t want to be,” Broden said.
“A deal’s a deal.”
“And bad deals are meant to be
broken. I’m not an ogre or an asshole, no matter what you think. I refuse to
take you to bed or force you to submit to anything, let alone sexually, if you
can’t stand me. I’m not that kind of a man.”
Now she really felt like a shit.
Palming the glass, she rested her head on the cool surface for a few seconds,
trying to figure out what to say. She wanted this man in so many ways and to
admit it to him and now was terrifying, but he deserved to hear something of
the truth. “You’re not keeping me
