a government building pulsing brightly. Barnin jumped on his horse calling to his men, "MOUNT UP! COME ON, COME ON, COME ON!" He rode through the streets, towards the building, his unit was close. People dove out of the way, a few even getting clipped. "MAKE A HOLE!" he yelled.
Ahead of Barnin and his men he could see five figures moving like blurs at the entrance to a building. He knew they had to be Elves and Iumenta with that speed, and he hoped that there were more Elves. As they drew in he saw more clearly that it was two Iumenta fight three, no two Elves. He pushed his mount harder as another Elf fell.
    "Come on!" he growled.
The Iumenta looked at Barnin and his men as the last Elf died. Barnin let out a war cry that felt as though it ripped the inside of his throat, as he drew his sword. Yellow shot at the Iumenta as Heath tried to take them out before they could use their fenrra. The spell missed and one of the Iumenta grabbed a stone on the ground, hurling it at Heath. Instead of contacting with one of Heath’s wards, the stone struck his horse’s leg, sending the animal tumbling with Heath still on its back.
"HEATH!" Barnin shouted, but he couldn't think of Heath anymore, they were to the Iumenta.
The world moved in slow motion as Barnin targeted an Iumenta. Its raven hair was the most defining thing about it; Barnin's eyes could make out each strand as they flowed in the air like waves. The Iumenta turned to the gray stone wall behind it, taking several steps up like it could defy gravity. It pushed off from the wall high above Barnin, pointing one of its razor fenrra at him. Barnin's vision was blocked by his shield as he raised it instinctively to protect himself.
There was a sound of screeching metal and time resumed its normal speed. Barnin yelled as the fenrra pierced his shoulder, going through the metal shield like it was butter. His gaze moved to that of cold yellow eyes as the Iumenta's other fenrra was driven into Barnin's back. There was the pressure of something on him and then none at all.
He felt his lungs fill with blood and he coughed it up in a great mouthful. He slumped in his saddle, not even registering the screams of his men as they were killed. His vision swam as he tried to breathe, the world tilted and he felt himself fall, hitting the ground.

Cinto finished killing the last of the Twigs when he noticed a group of human cavalry moving in on them. The lead Ape seemed over confident in its shiny armor, it yelled at the top of its lungs, like that would do anything. The other Apes were following suit. Kora dodged a yellow spell and hurled a stone at the Venefica Ape’s horse, sending it cartwheeling with its rider.
Cinto turned to the wall, taking one fluid step, placing his foot on the wall and running up it, he leaped into the air at the lead ape. It raised its shield, likely thinking it would stop a fenrra, but of course it didn't. Cinto stabbed the Ape’s shoulder with the fenrra in his left hand. This allowed him to come around back of the Ape and stab him through the back with Cinta's other fenrra. He jumped to the next horsemen not waiting to see if he'd killed the commanding animal, it was of no consequence to him, it couldn't fight anymore.
Blood spattered Cinta's face as he decapitated the next one and then again as he killed another. Kora caught his attention, "Ascended!" Cinto listened, hearing its approach.
He swore and they ran into an alleyway. They jumped from one wall to another as they went, freeing them from dodging the people and junk that littered the ground. They couldn't see the Ascended yet but they could hear it roar. They moved quickly, faster than any horse could have in the narrow alley sometimes jumping from window sill to window sill, but never being far away from populated areas. If they moved fast and stayed close to people the Elf dragon wouldn't be able to lock onto them with magic, or at least it couldn't with
