night.
We had all  exited the gallery
and were waiting  for Becca to lock the doors when we were
approached by a woman. She was taller than me, very skinny, with
long straight blond hair, huge boobs, and a small mole on her right
cheek that was barely visible; she looked like a
model.   Great, another blonde.
“What the hell, Christy?” Brandon snapped at her,
clearly upset and agitated by her appearance. I froze dead in my
tracks. Ex Christy?
“I need to talk to you,” she said to him.
“Look, this is neither the time nor the place to have
this conversation.  I have told you hundreds of times that I
don’t want to speak with you. Leave me alone or I will file a
restraining order…and stop harassing Spencer, too!” Brandon was
angrier than he had been at dinner. He had let go of my hand and
gotten up in her face, keeping himself planted firmly in between
us.
Just as he started to turn away from her and reach
for my hand again, she blurted out two words that made my heart
drop to the pit of my stomach.
    “I’m pregnant!”
“Pregnant? Did she just say pregnant?” I whispered to
Ryan.
“Fuck!” was all Ryan could say.
I heard Becca gasp behind me. Yes, she said pregnant.
I felt my legs giving out.
“And I care because?” Brandon said to Christy.
“Because it’s your baby!” she snapped.
"Oh hell no!" I heard Jason say behind me too.
“Ryan…” I said, still whispering to her.
“Yeah?” Ryan didn’t even turn to look at me. Like me,
our eyes were glued to the disaster in front of us.
    “Pinch me.”
“What?” she said as she finally looked over at
me.
“Ryan, you need to pinch me.  Like right now.
Please wake me up! This can't be happening!” I was no longer
whispering.
“What do you mean you’re pregnant with my baby? We
broke up weeks ago!” The volume of Brandon’s voice was increasing
in volume and was getting dangerously close to yelling.
    “I’m six weeks pregnant.”
    “That’s not possible.
Was this conversation really happening on the streets
of San Francisco? I didn’t know what to do. Ryan's arm was around
my shoulders with her body pressed into my side holding me up. I
felt like someone had punched me in the stomach; I couldn’t
breathe.
“I poked holes in all the condoms!”
“What the hell, Christy! Are you serious?  That
is some seriously messed up shit.  Are you fucking crazy?”
Brandon was pacing on the sidewalk, getting more and more
upset. I could tell he was trying to keep his cool, but he was
quickly losing that battle. I didn’t blame him at all. If she
wasn’t pregnant, I think I would have punched her.
"I knew I didn't like you for a reason," Jason
hissed.
"Christy, you are at my place of employment and
before you cause a bigger scene, you need to leave. You and Brandon
need to discuss this in private," Becca said as she stepped between
Christy and Brandon.
“Babe…” Brandon said as he turned around to
face me. “Ryan and Max are going to take you home. I will be there
after I talk to Christy and straighten this shit out.”
Brandon’s knees were bent enough so that he was
looking directly in my eyes as I felt them begin to sting with
tears. Breaking away from my eyes, he looked at Max. Brandon kissed
my lips and then Ryan tugged on my arm towards Max’s car. My eyes
blurred as they were still glued to the “movie” as I climbed in the
backseat of the car.

When we got home, I collapsed on the couch. This was
not happening. I didn’t fault Brandon for this, especially if the
bitch poked holes in the condoms. I was in love with him and I
wanted to be with him. I just wasn’t sure if I was ready to be a
step-mother, especially since I wasn’t a mother already.
“Spence, you want ice cream or vodka?” Ryan asked
after settling in.
“Both! I want a double of each… together!” I said as
my face was planted into the couch pillow.
“You want to talk about it?” she
asked as she handed
